| Expeditions in PeruJuly-August 2003Bordercrossing - first impressions: Entering Peru was a real pleasure. We left Ecuador and entered Peru at the border at the Ecuatorian city of Macara, which is definitely a route to recommend. The border is "muy tranquillo", the officials very friendly (the firendliest ever...!) and while it took us f.e. 3 days to get our car into Ecuador, we left Ecuador in 2 Minutes with all the necessary stamps and entered Peru in another 10 Minutes without any costs, special documents or problems at all. - Dreamtime... compared to every bordercrossing on our travels since Alaska so far. We travelled up into the "Cordillera Blanca" crossed over several passes up to 4900 meters high with incredible views of Peru's amazing mountains, down to Lima, up to Cusco - Machupichu, the most exciting site of ruins ever seen! - Lago Titicaca and finally to the border of Bolivia.
We found the most stunning views of the Cordillera blanca north of Huaraz
driving past the Lagunas Llanganuco to San Luis and back over an incredibly
nice mountain pass (close to 4900 Meters) to Carhuaz. We spent 3 days for
this turn - without seriously climbing the mountains - but one could easily
spend weeks in this very spectacular aerea. Another nice trip is up to the Laguna
Paron with a nice stroll along the lake - or, as we did, climbing to the
slopes of the glacier "Nevada Huandoy - 6390). Small world! - Here, on the
slopes of this glacier we met Reto (from Bern, Switzerland)!!
:) Some Pictures - an Overview....
....While Peru offers so many spectacular places to visit, our highlights in terms of spectacular szenery finally came on our travels across Bolivia. Click here to see our pics and stories..... :) |
