Expedition Summary - El Salvador...

Ongoing Expedtion  (Volcano Expedition Izalco, Parque Cerro Verde)
Hints & Tips to Enter and Leave El Salvador by car...

While entering El Salvador from Guatemala the telephone and electricity poles along the road definitely reveal that there is less poverty than in Guatemala. El Salvadorians around the world are supporting their mates back home with more than 1.6 billion dollar - an amount bigger than any other industry produces in El Salvador - and that obviously lifts the life standard amongst big groups of El Salvador's people.

We felt very comfortable driving and staying in El Salvador. People were interested and very open hearted. The Police and other officials were always friendly.

Volcan Izalco

Climbing the volcano is not really a big thing in terms of strenuousity. It took us merely two hours to get up to the summit from our basecamp (cabins) at the parque Cerro Verde. The bad thing is that You need armed guards as assaults to tourists happen very often....

Sunrise on the top of the volcano with 3 armed guides...

Normally tourists can join a group of armed police starting at around 9-10am to get to the volcanos. It was very kind of them to accompany us at 4.30am to get to the mountain before sunrise and we gave them a tip of some dollars each for their kindlyness.

If You would like to organise the same thing ask for the police-office (next to the small "tienda") and be very friendly....
The bad gravel road to the Hotel/cabins goes steep up to right around 1 km before the official parque entrance/parking lot of the "parque de Cerro Verde".

Info: It is not allowed to camp at the parking lot. --> Drive to the hotel/cabins where You will find a huge meadow to camp and stay. Entry and camping costs a minor fee daily (per person and per car).
