Expeditions & Hiking Tips - Canada...

Unfortunately our digital Camera did not work at the beginning of our trip starting from Halifax (East Canada) in May 2002 heading West all the way across Canada to Alaska until August 2002. I hope we will find the time to scan some of our foto-negatives and at least publish some of the incredible pictures that we were able to take travelling across canada.

So for now... - some geological background:

...some of the oldest and most stable rocks on earth.

In terms of active volcanos the canadian shield is truly not spectacular.

Still,  during our ongoing expedition we found many signs of volcanic
activities of former times. Huge ash deposits of (in geological terms)
"recent" pyroclastic eruptions are  nicely revealed along rivers that
cut themselves through the different layers of rock and sediments.
(Pictures to follow).

...hot springs in the west offer a nice warm up during
cold weather, rain or snow fall.

Liard Hot springs (near Watson lake - at the Alaskan Highway) are
a nice example of steam emerging from permanent cracks in the
continental crust forming nice water pools that offer perfectly
tempered water for a nice swim.

Hints:
The second pool (2 minutes further along the track is less crowded!)
There's a perfect log to stand on in the deep "bubbly" section of
this pool. Do You find it...!? - It's Perfect to relax and get a "bubble"-
massage... :)

Incredible wilderness & wildlife...

the purpose of our expeditions in canada was of course more than just
following our passion about active volcanos. Along many of our hikes
we got close encounters with Bison, Bear, Mousse, Beaver, Caribou,
Porcupine, a.s.o.  - Pictures will follow as soon as we find the time to
scan our negatives.
